Who are we?

tekstwerkcom has been enabling companies to successfully sell their products or services in the international market for over 40 years. In 1978, when the German home shopping company OTTO Group wanted to realise its plan to start selling through a mail order catalogue in the Netherlands, they hired André van Stek. This copywriter set up a company especially for this purpose, called André van Stek Tekstwerk BV, now the current tekstwerkcom. Thanks to translation, localisation, transcreation and copywriting, OTTO Group was able to secure a permanent place in the Dutch market.

Over the years, the service package of tekstwerkcom has grown in line with the needs of the clientele. In the 1980s, for example, tekstwerkcom started with electronic copy processing, followed by the addition of its own DTP studio in the 1990s. As the internet emerged, online activities increasingly took over offline activities. tekstwerkcom grew into an agency that not only had expertise in the field of printed media, but also in the field of e-commerce. By consistently leading the way, by always listening to the needs of the client and by only speaking their language and understanding the language of the target country and its culture, tekstwerkcom has created a special position for itself: the position of being an agency with international communication as its expertise.

Today, tekstwerkcom is in the hands of Dynant Boertien, who enthusiastically guides employees that, just like him, have an insight into both the clientele and the work. In addition to translation, localisation and transcreation, tekstwerkcom offers a full-service package, including support with marketing activities, customer support services and the implementation of proprietary software that links the client’s database to the tekstwerkcom systems, with the aim of automating recurring actions. This saves time and money and increases efficiency enormously.

tekstwerkcom has encompassed the evolution from a translation agency to a full-service provider. We are professionals who, as a team, make sure that borders are opened and the road to foreign expansion is paved. A partner who ensures that your company speaks the native language of the country where new business is to be generated, taking into account the culture of that country and the appropriate norms and values.

We are tekstwerkcom. Welcome.

History

The growth that tekstwerkcom has experienced since it was founded did not happen by chance. By growing alongside both new technological advances and the developments that took place at our clients, we have arrived at the point where we are today. In a clear timeline, we would like to take you through some of the highlights in the history of tekstwerkcom.

André van Stek founds tekstwerk•com

André van Stek responded by letter to an advertisement in the magazine Adformatie, placed by home shopping company OTTO Group. That company was looking to enter the Dutch market with its catalogue and was looking for a translator. OTTO Group replied to the letter and initially offered André van Stek a job at its head office in Hamburg. Later on, it is decided that he will work for the company on a freelance basis from home, in order to guarantee the best quality work. This collaboration was the very beginning of the launch of the OTTO Group in the Netherlands and lead to the foundation of tekstwerk•com.

tekstwerk•com moves to business premises

Six years after being founded, it was time to swap the domestic environment for business premises. tekstwerk•com settled in Dedemsvaart and prepared for further growth of the company.

From electric typewriter to dedicated word processor

Copy was previously typed using 4 sheets of carbon paper – a labour-intensive process that required a lot of accuracy. After being checked, these documents were then sent to the typesetter and the client. As technology progressed, first the electric typewriter with memory was introduced, followed by the Olivetti ETST1010 dedicated word processor – a major technical advance.

Online for the first time thanks to modem installation

A major step forward was the first installation of a modem, which eliminated the need for documents to be physically transported, and significantly saved costs and time. In fact, tekstwerk•com embraced the online world for the first time when this was still unknown territory for many companies.

Desktop Publishing is introduced

One development after another followed at lightning speed during this period. To address the new Trend catalogue, the OTTO Group wished to work in formatted documents. To make this possible, a complete DTP studio was added to tekstwerk•com. From then on, the layout programme Quark XPress was used on Apple computers.

Relocation from Dedemsvaart to Hardenberg

tekstwerk•com relocated to a brand new, modern office in Hardenberg, on the Roeterskamp. The new building offered plenty of opportunities to work in a future-facing way, with enough space to expand the workforce.

Current owner Dynant Boertien joins the company

Dynant Boertien joined the company as Head of DTP and Traffic. Since 2011, Dynant has been the owner of the current tekstwerk•com.

Development of own translation tool

The translation tools that existed only worked in Word and Excel but not in formatted documents or CSV files. A new translation tool was developed by tekstwerk•com which is compatible with various file formats and enables copy to be produced to work with the client’s systems. Again, tekstwerk•com distinguished itself by moving at a pace with the client.

First assignment from German to Danish

The method used for German to Dutch translation projects worked so well that tekstwerk•com received the first translation assignment for a German into Danish translation project from Peter Hahn. This marked the dawn of a new era in which Dutch was no longer the only language offered by tekstwerk•com.

Dynant Boertien takes over ownership of tekstwerk•com

In 2011, with his excellent customer contacts, a good sense of language and a solid command of the technical side of the work, Dynant Boertien officially took over ownership of tekstwerk•com from André van Stek, in a step they had been working towards since 2002.

Now also Dutch-speaking customer services

The first Dutch-language customer services was offered. When the need arises, if there is no existing Dutch office or if a client does not want to invest in one immediately, this is a full-service package tekstwerk•com offers clients in the Dutch market.

tekstwerk•com celebrated its 40th anniversary

In 2018, tekstwerk•com celebrated its 40th anniversary. To mark the occasion, André van Stek made a special visit to the offices to reminisce about how tekstwerk•com started and to celebrate the milestone with all of the staff, and clients received a commemorative gift to wish them a Happy New year.

tekstwerk•com offers a full-service package

tekstwerk•com offers a complete customised service package for written content for international markets. With the support of the IT department, the tekstwerk•com team is able to move along quickly and smoothly with the latest technical developments in the market. The company can easily deal with the most diverse and ever-changing file formats and computer programmes that assignments involve and that clients use. As a result, the process always remains clear for the client and manageable in both time and costs.
